Terms of Service

Acceptance and Modification of Terms of Use

The following terms of service govern all access to the Prosecutors Election website (the “Site”), which is owned and operated by the Prosecutors and Politics Project (the “Project”), a research initiative at the University of North Carolina. Access to the website is offered subject to acceptance without modification of all the following terms of service. The Project reserves the right to amend the terms of service at any time.  It is the responsibility of the user to periodically check the terms of service for any changes.

Privacy Policy

The Project’s Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms of Service.

No Warranties

The Site includes aggregated historical election records (“election data”) and historical campaign finance records (“campaign finance data”) and makes that data available on the Site (collectively “data”). The election data and campaign finance data have been collected from public sources. Although best efforts have been made to collect all available data and to present that data accurately on the Site, the Project does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the data.

No Commercial or Unlawful Purpose

Users may not access or use any of the data on the Site for commercial purposes. Commercial purposes include, but are not limited to, selling or loaning any of the data to third parties or using any data obtained from the Site to solicit business. Users may not give or otherwise deliver any of the data to third parties intending to use the data for commercial purposes.

Users may not access any of the data on the Site for unlawful purposes. Unlawful purposes include, but are not limited to, harassing or stalking individuals whose contact information is available in the campaign finance data.

Data Usage

Users may not reproduce or republish the data that is made available on this Site without first seeking permission from the Project. Permission may be obtained from ppp@unc.edu.

In addition to providing election data and campaign finance data, the Site also makes descriptive claims about that data, including but not limited to what percentage of elections were contested or uncontested in a particular state. Users are free to republish those descriptive claims without obtaining advanced permission, so long as they provide attribution to the Site.
